Updated the drive statistics. Some interesting numbers. The next bit coming soon!
I’m going to try and keep this page updated as often as I can on our trip. I think it’s a habit I have picked up from my dad who on family holidays would always do the same, but on a pad of paper.
I’ll add some more numbered categories along the way. Steaks eaten, weight gained, that sort of thing!

The Drive
Miles in total: 5756
final mileage after handing back car in San Francisco.
We started at 1534 miles, poor old Buck had his mileage up by 4.75 times.
Planned mileage: 4760 miles
That’s 996 miles less that we actually did. Our planned mileage was only point to point and didn’t plan for getting lost, touring and driving round Yellowstone.
Longest drive: Lincoln to Denver at 505 miles
that’s roughly the length of the trip from Aberdeen to London
Fuel stops: 26
Gallons bought: 168.61
Fuel cost: $507 (£318)
Miles per gallon: 34.14
Ford reckon the car should have done 35 miles per gallon on the highway. So we did ok there. Lots of city driving, lots of slow driving round national parks, lots of hill climbs and the air conditioning was on the whole time
Times Emma has shouted at the Sat Nav: lost count after 23
